Sam attended Chaska in high school until 2009. He was exposed to quizbowl as a sophomore but suffered from the effects of Knowledge Bowl throughout that season. Before the 2007-2008 season he attended summer practices hosted by Andrew Hart where he heard essentially every NSC packet written at that time. Through this he improved considerably and started to love the game. At the 2008 HSNCT Sam was 11th in individual scoring and Chaska qualified for the playoffs for the first time. He now attends and plays for Harvard.
