Does anyone know what this is or need it explained? Why is this page devoted solely to a five-year-old joke still here when dozens of useful pages were deleted for having some sarcasm or humor on them? Matt Weiner (talk) 16:06, 13 July 2013 (PDT)

Relatedly: Is there a top-down way to delete stupid or useless categories, so people don't have to drudge through every page linked to that category to delete the category tags? There's a ton of un-updated and conflicting categories listing championship programs, title winners, etc. which ought to be consolidated, lots of stupid nonsense like this, and lots of super-large and completely-unused categories such as "High school players active in 2004". Matt Jackson (am I adding to this talk page right?) (time stamp)
If you click Special pages in the toolbox on the left, there are a few useful links there. To timestamp, use four tildes. David Reinstein (talk) 06:01, 14 July 2013 (PDT)
Also, use colons to offset responses on talk pages.
Unfortunately, Matt...no, there isn't. Also, David, only admins have permissions to delete pages on mediawiki, by default, and it pops up as one of the tabs up top, not as a link on special pages. --Jacob Reed (talk) 09:24, 14 July 2013 (PDT)
If someone needs admin privileges to do what they want, let me know -- but I think the question is about removing pages from categories en masse, not deleting the pages. Jonah (talk) 11:59, 14 July 2013 (PDT)
Sorry if I was unclear; I meant deleting the category after the pages have had it removed from them.--Jacob Reed (talk) 12:12, 14 July 2013 (PDT)
