St. Olaf College is a four year, liberal arts college in Northfield, Minnesota. They usually compete in the NAQT North Sectional tournament.
History
In the 1962 season of College Bowl, a team of Paul Farseth, John Mathiason, Georganne Rentas, and Richard Toensing appeared on a televised game and lost to Tennessee. Meanwhile in Santa Clara, California, Vernon and Marie Gedge were watching the game. The player's conduct in the face of defeated impressed the Gedges so much that they decided to gift the majority of their estate, $962,000 adjusted to inflation, to St Olaf College. [1]
A quiz bowl club at St. Olaf college has been in continual existence since at least 1996 [2]. St Olaf attended their first national tournament at the 1998 ICT and placed 26th in D-I. A decade later, at the 2007 ICT, they sent a team to each division. The D-I teams finished 31st, second to last. The D-II team faired slightly better, finishing 9th.
In 2003, St Olaf began hosting the SOCIAL high school tournament. It usually runs in the fall on an NAQT A set.
