Kirk Walton is a former coach of Eden Prairie Quiz Bowl and current MQBA board member. He himself graduated from nearby Chaska High School and was on the winning team at the 1995 Knowledge Bowl State Championship.
When he took his job as Eden Prairie's coach, Kirk was the fourth coach the team had in about one year. The team itself was fairly loosely organized, and went to some Quiz Bowl tournaments and some Knowledge Bowl tournaments. Over the past three years, he has seen the team transform into a strong program. His teams tied for 13th and 21st respectively at the NAQT HSNCT, and was in the playoffs at the PACE NSC. In 2007, Kirk ran the first high school pop-culture tournament in Minnesota in February, which was called EPIC and also notably spawned one Brady Markus Walton, apparently the best around[1] He retired from coaching after the 2008 season but plans to be involved with Minnesota quiz bowl, including future incarnations of EPIC. Kirk stayed with his promise when on 2008 he became a member of the MQBA board of directors.
