The 1998 State College team won the first-ever PACE NSC. They defeated Henry Ford II 460 to 195 in the finals, after receiving their only loss in the tournament from Ford in the playoff bracket. This would be the only game lost by State College in the first three years of the PACE NSC, as they embarked on a string of four straight PACE titles in 1998.
The NSC team consisted of Mike Chiswick-Patterson, Aaron Lichtig, Jacob Mikanowski, and Cathy Vrentas.
State College also won the National Academic Championship in 1998, beating James Island in the final 400 to 380 with a lineup of Chiswick-Patterson, Lichtig, Vrentas, Mikanowski, Shannon Hogan, and Martin Devecka. In accordance with the quality of the tournament, State College immediately quit playing the NAC despite winning it.
State College 1998 also won the Fall 1997 Knowledge Masters Open online tournament.
