While in high school, Matt was a member of the Viburnum quizbowl team, helping to lead them to a second place finish in the Class 2 2004 MSHSAA State Championship. He also led that tournament in scoring.
In college, Matt played for the Missouri S&T team from 2005-2011, and was a member of the team that finished in 14th place at the 2008 ICT. He currently lives in Springfield, Missouri.
