Non-Scholastic Bowl Performances
The 2007-2008 season was the first year for Honaker in non-VHSL formats since 1997, when it placed a local format known as "Wise County PACE". Despite not yet attending a single NAQT or PACE national tournament, the program has qualified for a national tournament of some sort almost every year since it began playing non-SchoBowl formats.

Other Notes
- From 2007 through 2014, Honaker had an undefeated streak of 102 games at the district/conference level, including both regular season and tournaments. A record that still stands (after the 2017 season) is Honaker's 11-year undefeated streak at the district/conference tournament in order to qualify for Regionals. Honaker has never failed to make a VHSL regional tournament appearance in Scholastic Bowl's history, and has only failed to qualify for VHSL States 5 times since 1998.
- Former Honaker coach Alex Zachwieja was a member of the VHSL Scholastic Bowl Advisory Committee (2009-2011), and finished his coaching career with over 400 victories along with an eight-year undefeated streak in the Black Diamond District/Crooked Road Conference. Teams under his tutelage also won six straight Regional-level titles. Zachwieja retired from Honaker High School after the 2014 state championship season, bringing an end to his 20-year tenure as head coach of Honaker's academic competition teams (1995-2014).
- Honaker's 2014 Captain and top scorer in team history, Jacob Mitchell, once held the NAQT Record for most Points Per Tossup Heard in one game (on an IIS set or harder), with a stat line of 13-4-1 for 230 PPTUH.
- After a year of minimal activity in 2015 and with no remaining players from the 2014 state championship season, the team was turned over to one of Zachwieja's former players, Charlie Perkins in 2016. Under his guidance, the team has returned to prominence once again, winning two consecutive 1A State Championships-- the first VHSL team in Russell County to ever do so in sports or academic competitions. Perhaps more astounding is that neither team featured a player with more than 2 years of Scholastic Bowl experience; the 2016 team, in fact, had 6 of its 7 players in their rookie season.
- Honaker made its debut on the national stage at the 2017 NAQT Small School National Championship Tournament after its 20th year of playing VHSL and 10th year playing NAQT format. Despite only having 3 of their 7 players in attendance, they qualified for the playoffs and finished tied for 41st place, while also finishing within the top 20 Very Small Schools. Honaker's Captain, Caleb Perkins, earned the distinction of 19th individual scorer in the tournament, as well as the 13th-best scorer from a very small school-- the first Top 20 individual finish at the national level for any Virginian west of the New River Valley.
