Since 2016, he has been one of the coaches spearheading [[SWATA]], which brought quizbowl tournaments to the geographically isolated and essentially quizbowl-less area of deep Southwestern Virginia. Within the first year of its existence, SWATA produced more than 10 qualifiers for [[NAQT]] SSNCT, HSNCT, and [[PACE]] NSC. Of those qualifiers, three teams attended SSNCT ([[Honaker]], [[Tazewell]], and [[George Wythe]]) and one attended HSNCT ([[Gate City]]).
