Middle School Career
2014-15
As a sixth grader, William participated on the winning team of Aquilla I at Olentangy Liberty and Ohio's first Middle School State Championship, as well as the 2015 MSNCT, in which Miami Valley tied for eighth place. He scored the winning points in the eighth-place game, in which Miami Valley took Carmel Valley to a sudden-death question after three tiebreakers.
2015-16
As the second scorer to his brother, John John, William contributed to wins at Give Thanks for Quizbowl II and the 2016 State Championship, as well as a fifth place finish at the 2016 MSNCT.
2016-17
Now the captain, William led his team (solo on two occasions) to victories at the Harvest Prep Fall Invitational, Third Annual Copley Middle School Invitational, Northmont Middle School Tournament, and 2017 State Championship, during all of which he went undefeated and dominated the individual scoring with over 150 points per game. His team at the 2017 MSNCT, at which he also led the individual scoring, finished in fourth place.
William competed in the Middle School National History Bee (eighth-grade division) after winning at his regional site in Columbus. He advanced to the finals, in which he claimed runner-up. He also won the National Citizenship Bee.
For his solo performance at the Copley Middle School Invitational, he was named Middle School Player of the Week by NAQT. He was voted Middle School Player of the Year.
High School Career
2014-15
William has played for the high school team from the beginning of his career. He attended the Tippecanoe Academic Challenge XIX in the JV division and played at the Northmont OAC tournament (JV division).
2015-16
William led Miami Valley B at the Sidney Fall Tournament and later led his team at the Tippecanoe Academic Challenge XX to first place in the JV division. He also participated in several other high school tournaments.
2016-17
In his eighth-grade year, William asserted himself as an invaluable second scorer on the high school A team. He participated in more than ten regular-season high school events, including five tournament victories, and he captained the B team at the Miami Invitational. He played on the A team at the National History Bowl (JV) (which placed seventeenth), the 2017 SSNCT (which placed second), the 2017 HSNCT, and the 2017 NSC. He received the sixth-place all-star at the SSNCT, and was the only player during that season to attend the MSNCT, HSNCT, and SSNCT.
2017-18
As a freshman, William continued to be the A team's second scorer during a successful season. In the absence of John John, he lead the A team to third place at the 2018 SSNCT (Open division), and was the tournament's second-highest scorer. The following week, he led the team to an undefeated prelim finish at the OAC State Championship (which placed second, with John John in the afternoon). In the postseason William played on Miami Valley A at HSNCT and NSC, where his team finished in twentieth and thirty-fourth place respectively, and winning the JV title at the latter. He also led Ohio B in scoring at NASAT, and made the finals of several events at the International History Olympiad, including the International History Bee. He was nominated for 9th grade Player of the Year.
