Lexington High School is a public school in Lexington, Missouri, about 40 miles east of Kansas City. It has historically competed in MSHSAA Class 3, though the school recently dropped to Class 2 in 2013.

The team has historically been one of the strongest in Class 3 competition and was coached for many years by Jim McCrary. The team has attended the MSHSAA State tournament nine times and placed in the final four in seven of those appearances, though none have resulted in a state championship.

Tournaments Hosted

Lexington's Varsity and Junior Varsity tournaments were prominent events on the Kansas City area schedule before being discontinued after the 2010-2011 season.

Junior Varsity Tournament

Lexington hosted its annual Junior Varsity tournament in late fall. For several years it had been the first or second Saturday in December, but was often postponed or severely reduced in size due to winter weather. In 2008, the tournament was moved to November 15 to reduce the chance of inclement weather affecting the tournament.

The JV tournament has typically featured a five-period format (toss-ups, lightning, toss-ups with bonuses, worksheet, and double-value toss-ups).

Varsity Tournament

Lexington's Varsity tournament was held annually in late March and traditionally fields a large number of teams from western and central Missouri. It is usually run in the MSHSAA format with large and small school divisions and is typically the last major Varsity tournament near Kansas City before Districts.

Lexington's 2009 Tournament was notorious for using an abysmal Questions Galore set, as well as a controversial denied protest that decided the large school championship game. Savannah was awarded the large school championship after a first-to-three tiebreaker, but many feel that North Kansas City's denied protest on a part on the final bonus of regulation was not handled properly and consider NKC to be the true champion of the large school division.
