Shiva first started playing Quiz Bowl in 5th grade and quickly developed into one of the nation's strongest, most consistent, and even most feared players in both general quiz bowl and history bowl.
Notable Achievements as an individual
Shiva first entered national prominence when he became the youngest player to be an All Star Player at the 2015 Middle School National Championship Tournament (MSNCT-15). Since then, he has been a National All Star at the MSNCT in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
In January 2017, NAQT began its program of honoring top teams and players each week. As part of this program, Shiva was named the first-ever NAQT Middle School Player of the Week for the week of Jan 7, 2017. Later, Shiva was also named to the National Middle School Quiz Bowl A Team for 2017.
Shiva made history at the 2018 MSNCT when he soloed the MSNCT, suffering his only loss to Midtown Classical in the prelims en route to an unprecedented national championship. Three weeks later, he again created history, leading Pi-oneers to two more solo tournament victories, this time at the ACE Elementary National History Bowl and the National Academic Bowl, respectively, both of which were in Atlanta. He was the National Middle School Player of the Year and Captain of National Middle School A Team for 2018 [[1]].
After 3 consecutive years of finishing as the runner-up to Robert Muniz in the National History Bee, in 2019, Oswal finally broke through to win the '19 JV History Bee national championship, scoring an impressive 47 points in the final round to hoist the trophy.
