The 2021 NAQT HSNCT was held online on Zoom, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Barrington High School won the tournament, winning both games of an advantaged final against University Lab. Detroit Country Day won a third-place match against TJHSST. Willian Groger was the top individual, scoring 100.00 PP20TUH in the preliminary rounds.
Due to the relatively smaller field of 224 (compared to previous years), there were only 8 prelim rounds instead of the usual 10.

Trivia
- The 2021 HSNCT was the first-ever good quizbowl national tournament to be hosted online.
- The Barrington–Uni Lab final was the first ever all-Illinois national finals, and Barrington's win was the first national title won by an Illinois high school (not counting NASAT).
- Belmont was likely the highest-polling team (ranked #8 in the GrogerRanks pre-nationals poll) ever to miss playoffs at a national tournament.
