In recent years, social science writing has been criticized for focusing too much on dead theorists without much contemporary cachet in the disciplines they represent (e.g. Sigmund Freud in psychology, Bronislaw Malinowski in anthropology) and writers have attempted to focus more on concepts and current trends within social science fields. The Categorical Imperative

Social science (sometimes abbreviated SS) is a minor academic category in quizbowl competitions. Social science questions are something of a grab bag, with represented subdisciplines including psychology, economics, anthropology, sociology, linguistics, and political science. Social science has the following distribution per packet: ACF, 1/1; NAQT College, 1.2/1.1; NAQT High School, 0.6/0.7.

In the past, social science writing has been criticized for focusing too much on dead theorists without much contemporary cachet in the disciplines they represent (e.g. Sigmund Freud in psychology, Bronislaw Malinowski in anthropology); writers have since attempted to focus more on concepts and current trends within social science fields. See this thread for some discussion on the matter.
