Josh Rutsky attended Oberlin College. He has served as President of the Alabama Scholastic Competition Association and is a co-founder of Qwiz. In 2015, he was awarded the Cooper Award for his efforts encouraging "good quizbowl" practices in Alabama, including running the entire ASCA state series on pyramidal questions.
Coaching
Rutsky was a very successful coach at Hoover, where he led the team to four straight NAQT Alabama Championships from 2009 to 2012, several ASCA High School State Championships, and 17th place at the 2009 HSNCT. Under Rutsky's direction, Hoover also hosted many successful editions of the Hoover Invitational, which grew into one of the largest quizbowl events in the Southeast and attracted a significant number of out-of-state teams to play the best teams in Alabama.
One of his signature efforts as a coach was getting the Scholars Bowl team on equal footing (and funding) with athletics teams, including the reward of school-wide pep rallies for winning state championships. [1]
