Downingtown East is located in Exton, PA, a fairly affluent suburb in Southeastern PA's Chester County. The school competes in the Chester County Intermediate Unit competition each year as well as (increasingly) nearby invitational tournaments. D-East won the Pennsylvania State Academic Competition in 2014 and 2015.

In 2017, Jackie Wu was named the recipient of the 2017 Benjamin Cooper Young Ambassador Award for her work in helping to convert her school and her region to pyramidal good quizbowl practices.
