It competes in Class AA, the "large school" division, of the Illinois High School Association's ([[IHSA]]) State Championship Series. For over 20 years Macomb was one of the top-tier small school programs in Illinois & in the nation.

The team was coached by Suellyn Rieckelman for many years to great success. In 2010 they finished 3rd in the IHSA Tournament, and in 2011 they finished 2nd. Their star player was Tristan Willey, who was a freshman and then sophomore during those two seasons.

Coached by [[IHSSBCA Hall of Fame]] member, Suellyn Rieckelman, between 1995-2022 the Bombers built themselves into a perennial dynasty. With their sights set on shaking their "small school" identity, the Bombers notably withdrew from local circuits and began traveling regularly to tournaments in Chicagoland & Missouri. They also began hosting the [[Macomb Rotary]] Tournament. Behind all-state caliber teams year-after-year, Macomb saw numerous podium finishes at NAQT, IHSA, & Masonic tournaments. Including back-to-back appearances in the IHSA State Championship in 2011 & 2012 despite having been promoted to Class AA at the end of 2011.

The team hosted its own housewritten tournament, a Frosh/Soph event in [[mACF]] Format, for the first time in October 2010. The team won that event in addition to the 2010-11 Orion Varsity, Moline Frosh/Soph, PORTA Frosh/Soph, and Galesburg Rotary Tournaments.
+
The program has held many impressive playoff streaks including winning their IHSA Regional 19-straight years between 2002-2021 across both classes, 13-straight Masonic Sectional titles (2010-2022), 9-straight NAQT national trophies (2012-2021).

The team went 12-5 at the [[2013 HSNCT]] and was the top-placing small school team.

Macomb has hosted their IHSA Sectional since 2010.
