The 1989 Sullivan team finished second to Dorman at the NAC. Sullivan was coached by Ken Johnson. Roster was Jason Stone, captain Chad Rogers, Matthew Stone and Keena Baumgartner. It was once believed that, until Team Illinois won the 2007 Panasonic Academic Challenge, the 1989 Sullivan team was the highest finisher of any Illinois team at any type of national tournament in some form of quizbowl.
