Mt. Mansfield Union High School is a public school that serves the Vermont towns of Jericho, Underhill, Bolton, Huntington and Richmond. Its academic team is a member of the Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl and currently competes in the Champlain Region.
State tournament
The Cougars have made a number of deep runs into the Vermont state tournament and claimed their only title in 1991. They also reached the title game in 1993, 2006 and 2009, climbing out of the tournament's B bracket in the 2006 season before dropping a 280-225 decision to Middlebury in the final.
National tournaments
Mt. Mansfield's Elise London earned a place on the Panasonic Academic Challenge All-America team in 1993 after the Cougars' state tournament runner-up finish that year.
Other tournaments
MMU's team has become more active in recent seasons and has fared well in local tossup-bonus event. The Cougars won the inaugural Pre-Holiday Academic Tournament at South Burlington High School in December of 2007 and they finished second in the 2008 Sue Pasco Opening Tournament at Essex High School.
Coaches
Bryan Aubin and Gretchen Coleman are in their second year as MMU's co-coaches, having replaced Adrienne Capone after of the 2006-07 season.
Capone's predecessor was Erald Medlar, one of the most influential figures in the history of the Vermont Scholars' Bowl. After retiring from Mt. Mansfield in the early 1990s, Medlar took over as tournament director of the state tournament in 1993 when Saint Michael's College withdrew its sponsorship. He guided the league through one year without a sponsor and was instrumental in securing the Vermont-NEA as the league's title sponsor. He then oversaw a period of expansion and increased competitiveness in almost a decade as tournament director.
