Format
RTO rounds are three parts: a category round where teams consult, a worksheet round, and a traditional pyramid tossup/bonus round. The tournament runs 6 preliminary rounds and the top teams advance to a single elimination playoff. Size of the playoff bracket represents the size of the field.
The tournament is administered using a custom software package that runs in each classroom. A live scoreboard is projected in each room during the match, and software tracks statistics as well as providing real-time Swiss pairing.
