The Sue Pasco Opening Tournament is the Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl's annual kickoff tournament. It is held at Essex High School in Essex Junction, Vt., in September in conjunction with the league's coaches' meeting.
The event was first held in 1999 as the Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl Kickoff Tournament. It was renamed in 2003 to honor Sue Pasco, the Essex coach who passed away tragically within months of leading the Hornets to the 2002 Vermont state championship.
