Carol Anne Guthrie (born July 4, 1958 in Cocoa Beach, Florida) is a question writer. She attended Berry where she completed the bachelor's in history. While at Berry, Guthrie competed on the school's academic quiz team, captaining it from 1978-80. While at Berry, Guthrie began writing and editing questions for quiz tournaments.
In 1981 she married teammate Don Windham and began work on a graduate degree at Tennessee. Guthrie became player-coach of the UT team in 1982. She would remain coach until 1997 leading UT to the 1991 Academic Competition Foundation National Championship.
Guthrie was a cofounder of the ACF and remained active as a question writer and a tournament director. Her company, Carol Guthrie and Associates sold questions and ran tournaments at Berry College, the University of Tennessee, Tennessee Wesleyan College and many other colleges and universities through the southeast. In 2002, she returned as co-coach to the Tennessee team.
Guthrie completed the PhD in history at the University of Tennessee in 1994. She later returned to UT and completed the JD in 2000. She is now an attorney practicing in Oak Ridge. She won the N. Gordon Carper Award for achievement in academic quiz competition in 2000, the second recipient after her coach and mentor, Gordon Carper.
