Jay Winter is a math teacher and current coach at Waukee High School in Iowa near Des Moines. He is the founder and current CEO and Treasurer of the Iowa Quiz Bowl League. He became a member of PACE in 2020.
Playing Career
Jay played Illinois Scholastic Bowl at Decatur MacArthur in the late 1980s and very early 1990s under legendary coach Tom Durbin.
Coaching Career
Winter previously taught at Greenville HS in Illinois. In the 2015-2016 season, Waukee won the NAQT Iowa State Championship and attended the 2016 NSC.
IQBL Work
Upon moving to Waukee, Winter immediately set out to revive pyramidal high school quizbowl in Iowa through founding the Iowa Quiz Bowl League. The IQBL saw several early successes with a series of novice and regular tournaments around the state in the 2015-2016 season and the formation of several televised pyramidal-ish TV shows around the state that included pyramidal qualifying tournaments.
