A noted geography player, Max won the JV championship of the 2020 International Geography Bee and placed 3rd in the JV division of the 2020 U.S. Geography Championships. He also wrote the open-level geography packet UGGHH... He contributed to Ladue's 4th place finish at the 2021 ONCT.

Outside of quizbowl, Max was part of the Ladue team that won the 2020 National Ocean Sciences Bowl.
