The '''Copley Invitational''' is an annual Ohio tournament that is hosted in February.  It is well known for being the largest single-site tournament in the state, hosting 88 teams (including Junior Varsity) during the 2009 event.  It is also one of the largest OAC qualifiers in the state, providing six bids to [[OAC]] Regionals to qualifying teams.  The 2010 Copley Invitational was originally supposed to be held on February 27.  However, due to the threat of severe snowstorms heading through the Akron area, it was postponed to March 20th.

Teams that register in the Copley Invitational are split into groups of eight.  This is done because OAC rules mandate that there be at least eight different schools in a tournament in order to qualify for regionals.  Each group is named after a color, such as "Red" or "Yellow".

Two groups in particular, the "Blue" and the "Gold" group, contain only those teams which have already qualified for regional play.  This way, the maximum number of new teams qualify for regionals, as the only teams which have already done so are placed in the fewest number of brackets.  After a seven-game round robin, the teams with the highest record are declared champions of each group, and the champions of the Blue and Gold groups face off to determine the tournament champion.

Postponement

Originally, the Copley Invitational was slated to be held on February 27th. No other tournaments are usually held on the same date, since most teams attend the Copley event annually. However, due to the threat of severe snowstorms moving through the Akron area, the event was postponed until a later date, which was March 20th.

The postponement caused some teams to withdraw from the tournament, including teams that are members of the Mahoning County Quizbowl League, whose tournament is on the same date. Also, since OAC Regional Applications were to be due on March 19th, the OAC Executive Committee will accept others that are late due to the rescheduling.
