Kevin was invited to the first ACO practice of the 2009-2010 year by [[Kent Buxton]]. He first competed on the college level at [[EFT]] IV at [[Illinois|UIUC]], getting 25th individually out of 92 on a team with a record of 4-8. Kevin next competed at [[ACF Fall]] at the [[Missouri|University of Missouri]], where he was on a team that lost a tiebreaker to [[WUSTL]] after defeating them in the preliminaries and being defeated by them in the playoffs, with WUSTL getting the 2nd place, undergraduate, and division II titles of the tournament as a result of winning the tiebreaker.

Kevin Lang was a member of the Truman State Academic Competition Organization during his freshman year of college. In high school, he was a member of three teams that qualified for the MSHSAA state championships and captain of his high school varsity team for three years.
