Jeremy R. was a member of the St. Charles Community College Quiz Bowl team. He was a member of the SCC teams that won the 2010 CCCT and Top Community College award at the 2010 Division II ICT. In high school, he played for Francis Howell Central. His last name has been redacted due to safety concerns.
Playing History
High School
Jeremy was first recruited to the Francis Howell Central team at the beginning of the 2008 season by Charles Hang. During his high school career spanning the 2008 and 2009 seasons, Jeremy consistently attended tournaments with the team, with his most noteworthy moment possibly being when he led the Francis Howell Central B team of himself and two sophomores into the top playoff bracket at the 2009 NAQT Missouri Qualifier. Jeremy helped accomplish this by getting 30 points on the final bonus, which was in math theory.
College
Jeremy originally did not plan to play Quiz Bowl in college, but was recruited yet again by Charles Hang into becoming a member of the St. Charles Community College team which Hang was forming. Jeremy played at all of the team's tournaments in the 2009-2010 season except for the 2010 Matt Cvijanovich Memorial Novice Tournament (which Charles Hang played solo). He was a member of the St. Charles CC B team that went 4-7 at the 2010 Kansas CCSCT as well as a member of the St. Charles CC teams that won the 2010 CCCT and the Top Community College Award at the 2010 Division II ICT. [1]
Beyond that, Jeremy assisted Charles Hang in managing the team's affairs, helping with logistics, driving, and recruiting. It was Jeremy who recruited Mike Janoski, the team's second best player behind Charles Hang. He also claims to be responsible for his team being the only one at Sectionals to be ahead of Charles at the half through his strategy of glaring angrily at Charles and distracting him.
Forum Post
Jeremy is probably best known in the wider Quiz Bowl community for an inflammatory post he made in response to the "Charles Hang discussion" thread on the Quizbowl Resource Center forums. Made several weeks after active discussion in the post had ended, the post attacked the perceived elitism of the collegiate circuit towards Community Colleges. [2] This attempt to defend his friend and teammate earned Jeremy a swift ban and the thread a trip to the Forbidden Zone. [3]
