In the early 1990's, the Texaco Star Academic Challenge hosted by Chip Beall was the regional or national tournament for many teams. Hosted by Texaco and produced for local cable access, the teams participated in Academic Challenge-style questions from Questions Unlimited, competing for college scholarships worth as much as $25,000 for the team.
Winners in the New York region included: Rye High School (1992) and Irvington High School (1995). A playlist of episodes can be found at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChdlOuQunw5-zsnU5Eh5bnA/playlists.
