The term "A"-Team generally refers to the top/"best" team from a school which fields multiple teams. (This is followed by "B"-team, "C"-team, etc., generally ranked by strength.)
Abuse
One particularly bush league tactic that will occasionally be employed by some schools is to deceptively register their true best team as their B or C, etc. This messes with tournament organizers' efforts to create fair pre-tourney seedings; it is considered bad quizbowl for fairly obvious reasons.
