Smith Middle School is a 6-8 middle school in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is currently coached by Latin Teacher Bratton Holmes. Smith was 2nd place at the 2015 NCASA Middle School State Championship, won the 2016 iteration of the state championship, came in 3rd at the 2017 state championship, losing to eventual champion Metrolina by 10 points in the semifinals, and won the 2018 and 2019 state championships. Smith has participated at the MSNCT since 2013. Smith finished tied for 21st at the 2016 MSNCT and tied for 5th at the 2017 MSNCT. Until the 2018-19 school year, they had been lead by Benjamin McAvoy-Bickford, average from 64 to 117 points per game at tournaments. Now they are lead by lead scorers Bo Chi and Krishna Rajagopal, who have both averaged approximately 58 points per game each at the past few tournaments.
