Rice Memorial High School is one of Vermont's two Catholic high schools. Located in South Burlington, Vt., it has an enrollment of about 400 students and competes in the Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl's Champlain Region.

State tournament

Rice was the dominant team in the Vermont Scholars' Bowl's early years, winning the inaugural tournament in 1984 and securing the title again in 1986. The Green Knights haven't claimed the championship since, though they were runners-up in 1999 and remain among of the league's most consistently competitive teams with 11 appearances in the final eight between 1997 and 2009.

National tournaments

Rice's 1984 team participated in the National Academic Championship in Dallas, and led by captain John Bennett, advanced to the second round. Its first-round victory over Newton South from Massachusetts is believed to be the only single-elimination playoff win by a Vermont team at a national tournament.

Rice's 2008 captain, Judy Contompasis, was part of the Vermont all-star team that advanced to the semifinals at the Panasonic Academic Challenge.
