Won by Wheelersburg in a final over Jordan. A Newsweek article on the rising phenomenon of academic contests for high schoolers in the mid-80s referred to this as an unexpected result. The tournament took place at the WFAA-TV studios in Dallas, though the source article doesn't say how extensive the presumably resultant airing of the matches was.
Beall indicated in the 1998 tournament summary that the largest comeback in a NAC match from 1983 to 1998 was East Mecklenburg defeating Jordan after being down 145 points in a game during this tournament, thought the 2000 tournament summmary said that a 165-point comeback took place in 1985. Wichita Collegiate from Kansas and Rice Memorial from Vermont were other teams that participated in this tournament.
