Summary
Hurley High School is located in Hurley, Virginia. It's enrollment is approx. 205 students and participates in the Region D, Div. A, Black Diamond District. Hurley has had success having the second strongest Scholastic Bowl team in the district, behind Honaker. Their success netted them four consecutive runner-up titles in the district tournament (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) and most recently a second place showing in the regular season in 2011-12. The team is coached by Connie Cooper, Mark England, and '06 tourney alumnus Travis Blankenship.
2005-06 Black Diamond District Tournament
Hurley entered into the 05-06 tournament tied for last seed with Twin Valley. The team lost in its opening round to Haysi. In the loser's bracket, they eliminated Council, then eliminated Honaker in a well fought match to face Haysi in the championship round. They lost after a win, but this began their recent success in building a program.
Team Members who participated in the tourney were Captain Jake Olivia (Fr.), Andrea Justus (Sr.), Shanon Chapman (Sr.) and Travis Blankenship (Sr.)
