The Tennessee High School State Academic Quiz Bowl Championship is the state championship for high school teams in Tennessee. It uses NAQT IS-XX6 sets and is organized by the Tennessee Academic Coaches Association (TACA). It has been many years, however, since a West Tennessee team competed and few teams outside of the Nashville or Knoxville areas attend.
It is notable for its consistently lengthy (45-50 minute) matches, slow and incomprehensible moderators, and its odd three-quarter format (10 tossups without bonuses, a worksheet of 15 questions, and 10 tossups with bonuses in three thirds) as well as its insularity. Despite using pyramidal questions, its worksheet round often consists of trivia or pop culture.
The tournament awards the full cost of registration fees to the HSNCT to the winner of the tournament and names an All-Star team based on coach voting.
