The Academic Competition Foundation was the main organization of academic, independent (that is, non-[[College Bowl]]) college quizbowl from 1991 to 1997. In 1997, it was ended and replaced by the new Academic Competition Federation, with substantial change in personnel but much continuity in goals and policies. Thus, from a quizbowl perspective, though not a legal one, the organizations are treated as part of a larger "ACF" whole. See [[Academic Competition Federation]] for more.
