In 2015, Midtown Classical sent a team entirely composed of 5th-graders to the MSNCT, where they finished 74th. The next year, the same team ended the preliminary rounds with a 6-2 record, and went on to finish 9-4 and tied for 13th not long after a loss to the eventual tournament champions Middlesex A (captained by 8th-grader John Phipps). In 2017, after a season that included being selected as NAQT's Middle School Team of the Week after a 572 PPG tournament, Midtown started 5-0 at MSNCT, but ended the preliminaries with a 6-2 record, losing to Miami Valley (captained by 2017 MS Player of the Year William Groger) and Smith, from Michigan.
