From the program's creation until the spring of 2016, Mater Dei competed in Class A, the "small school" division of the Illinois High School Association's (IHSA) State Championship Series. After their 2016 State appearance, the IHSA implemented a multiplier which bumped the Knights to Class 2A.

From the program's creation until the spring of 2016, Mater Dei competed in Class A, the "small school" division of the Illinois High School Association's (IHSA) State Championship Series. After their 2016 State appearance, the IHSA implemented a multiplier which bumped the Knights to Class 2A.

The Scholar Knights are rivals with Piasa Southwestern and the Wesclin Warriors.
