Champlain Valley Union High School is a public school of about 1,350 students that serves the Vermont towns of Hinesburg, Williston, Shelburne, Charlotte and St. George. The CVU academic team is a member of the Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl and competes in the Addison Region.
State tournament
Champlain Valley has been one of Vermont's most successful teams in recent years, advancing at least as far as the state quarterfinals in 10 of the last 11 seasons. The Redhawks have been especially formidable since John Bennett took over as coach in 2001-02 season, reaching the state title game four times and securing their first championship in 2007.
National tournaments
CVU made its debut on the national stage in 2007, competing at the Panasonic Academic Challenge and NAQT national tournament. CVU went 5-5 at NAQT, the best record ever recorded by a Vermont team at a tossup-bonus national tournament. The Redhawks then became just the second Vermont school to advance a team to the Panasonic playoffs, winning their second-round game against Connecticut, North Carolina and the Virgin Island. CVU finished fourth in its semifinal.
Two members of that team, Eli Goldberg and Max Keve, were part of Vermont's all-star team that reached the Panasonic semifinals in 2008.
