ACRONYM is a pop culture set edited by Erik Nelson and written by members of Play Quiz Bowl. It is typically mirrored as a side event at HSNCT.

The original ACRONYMs were tournaments held by Armstrong High School in Minnesota. It was initially conceived as part of an attempt to keep the quizbowl program alive after the Robbinsdale School District cut all of its funding for the 2008-2009 school year. [1] [2]

In 2008 and 2009 the tournament was run on NAQT IS questions. Since 2010, the tournament has been a house-written pop culture tournament, with ACRONYM VII being the first time it was edited by Erik Nelson and ACRONYM VIII the first to be mirrored across the nation.
