Avinash Iyer (Class of 2021) was a player for Mission San Jose in Fremont, California. He was widely considered one of the best high school players in the country. He finished 2nd at the 2019 National JV History Bee, and was a part of the MSJ teams which finished 4th at the 2018 National History Bowl and 3rd at the 2019 National JV History Bowl.
In December 2020, Avinash announced that he would be "removing [him]self from the quizbowl community, effective immediately" after the revelation of sexual misconduct he had committed at the 2019 HSNCT.
