Collin Parks played for DCC in high school. He attended Central Michigan for two years before transferring to Michigan.
Career
High school
Collin was a member of the perennially successful DCC B team, which frequently came just behind its A team at tournaments in the Greater Michigan Area. In 2011, he was a member of the DCC B team that placed t-8 at HSNCT (5 places higher than their A team) and 29th at NSC. In 2012, he was a member of the DCC B team that placed t-49 at HSNCT and 24th at NSC.
In his senior year, Collin became a regular member of the DCC A team, culminating in him being second scorer on the t-8 team at the 2013 HSNCT and top scorer on the 5th place NSC team. Alongside DCC teammates Brandon Roach and Paul Hamilton and Siddhant Dogra of Detroit Country Day, Collin was the top scorer on the 5th place Michigan team at the 2013 NASAT.
In 2013, David Madden announced the HSNCT side event "Roger de Flor vs. the World", in which Collin would play an entirely Byzantine history set against other players under the name Roger de Flor, a condottiere active in the Byzantine empire. Though he expressed interest after learning about it, Collin was not consulted about his participation in the event prior to its announcement; this prompted a public argument between David Madden and various others (including Matt Jackson and Charlie Dees) over professionalism in quiz bowl/history bowl.
College
After matriculating to Central Michigan, Collin played 2014 ACF Regionals solo.
In 2015, he transferred to Michigan, where he rejoined NASAT teammate Siddhant Dogra on the Michigan B team at the 2016 ICT.
In 2017, Collin authored the post "How far should we tolerate hate speech in quizbowl?", which questioned whether he could, in his capacity as tournament director for Michigan, ban someone who shared all of their characteristics with Luke Tierney. While the consensus was "no", this thread prompted Luke to resurface and make some very weak points in his own defense.
