Stats |
The 2008 NAQT Missouri Qualifier was the first ever NAQT State Qualifier in Missouri, held at Missouri S&T on February 16, 2008. 9 teams from 5 schools attended, with North Kansas City going undefeated to win the tournament and Richland A taking third behind NKC and Helias to win the Small School title.
Like the following year, the Warrenton Tournament at Warrenton High School was held on the same day, but unlike in 2009, its existence was actually mentioned by Jeremy Gibbs before the tournament was officially announced. [1] Unfortunately, it was the only day that Missouri S&T could host the tournament, so the conflict was unavoidable.
Teams
Teams marked with * were eligible for the small school title
- Fordland*
- Helias (2 teams)
- North Kansas City
- Richland* (2 teams)
- Salem (3 teams) - Salem's current 9-12 MSHSAA enrollment is 677; that would put them close to 500 in grades 10-12, so it's not known for sure if they were also eligible for the Small School title.
Format and Results
The tournament was a full round robin with an ACF-style playoff. At the end of the round robin, North Kansas City was undefeated at 8-0, while Helias was 7-1. In the playoff, NKC defeated Helias 500-85 in the first game to claim the first ever NAQT Missouri state title. Richland A (6-2) was awarded the small school title without a playoff against runner-up Fordland (5-3).
