Nate Mattison was the captain of the 2005 and 2006 Byram Hills NAC teams. In 2005, they lost in the semifinals of the tournament to Holland Hall. They came back in 2006 to win the entire tournament and Nate got inducted into Chip Beall's Hall of Fame.

A New York Times article about Mattison quoted him as saying "I am quite aware of how much I aggravate other teams. The only thing is I don't know how to not aggravate them. When I walk in the room, the karma changes." The article also contained a series of stereotypes about quizbowl players and was a perfect example of the general ignorance demonstrated by members of the journalism profession. Nate went on to attend Yale University.
