John del Puerto joined Salem Academy’s quiz bowl team at the beginning of his freshman year in 2019, after success in his school’s middle school trivia competitions, advancing to state championships in the National Geographic Bee in the sixth grade.

After initially competing with the B Team, del Puerto quickly rose the ranks to compete in his first A team berth in early 2020. Since then, he has been a cornerstone of Salem Academy’s A Team, being an essential part of their core, along with Samuel Wemmer and Jonah Harrison, especially in the wakes of Nash Rougvie and Lour Drick Valsote’s departure.

del Puerto specializes in history, politics, current events, and music history(particularly opera and classical music). Generally, he has averaged between twenty and forty points per game, with occasional performances as high as ninety to one hundred points in a single game.
