Kevin Robb is a member of the Academic Competition Organization at Truman State University. He also played Quiz Bowl in middle school at Saeger Middle School and in high school at Francis Howell Central.

Playing History

Middle School

Kevin was first introduced to Quiz Bowl in sixth grade by his SEGA gifted program teacher at Saeger Middle School, Mrs. Debbe Van Beers. Van Beers, the founder and former coach of the Francis Howell North High School Quiz Bowl team, encouraged all of her SEGA students to join the Quiz Team sponsored by her husband Mike. Both Kevin and classmate Charles Hang participated in the team at Saeger, winning a number of competitions.

High School

After graduating from Saeger Middle School, Kevin played for the Francis Howell Central High School team coached by Kathryn Keierleber. Kevin's talents weren't immediately apparent due to being overshadowed by teammate Charles Hang, but his abilities did show on a number of occasions.

Notably, Kevin was a high scorer in the Two Saints Conference in 2008 on the basis of tossups answered despite only playing four of seven games, while a B team consisting of Kevin and several of the team's other generalists placed in the top 8 at the 2008 Helias Tournament (for comparison, the A team including Charles Hang and math specialist George Yu, the team's top players, took 4th). [1] [2] Similarly, a Kevin Robb led B team managed to reach playoffs at the Washington High School Scholar Classic that year while the A team including George but not Charles failed to place, with Kevin coming in second overall in scoring. [3] Most impressively, even playing alongside Charles Hang, Kevin put up nearly 30 PPG at WUHSAC XI in January 2009, thus scoring the most points of any Francis Howell Central player playing alongside Charles in a good tournament in the last two years of his high school career.

Thus, Kevin was indisputably the second best player of the Francis Howell Central team in the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 seasons in subjects other than computational math. He served an important generalist role in support of the team's top players such as Peter Creedon and Charles Hang and competed at most of the tournaments the team attended.

Awards

College

Kevin's talents finally became apparent with his first collegiate event, the 2009 ACF Fall tournament hosted at Missouri. Kevin was a solid contributor on the well balanced Truman C team which took third at the tournament after nearly upsetting the Washington University in St. Louis team led by former teammate Charles Hang by defeating it in the preliminaries. WUSTL's victory over Truman C in the playoffs forced a tiebreaker for the 2nd Place, Undergraduate, and Division II titles, which the WUSTL team won. [4]

Kevin was also a member of the Truman State B team which took first at the 2010 Midwest SCT, beating out a WUSTL team led by Spencer Fish and a team from Harding to claim a bid to attend the 2010 ICT. [5] He went on to play on the Truman State team which took 24th of 32 teams at the 2010 NAQT ICT after going 3-11 (including a tiebreaker game not featured in NAQT's results). [6]

Along with Sabrina Fritz and David Lanza, Kevin was a member of the open team "We Hate Each Other" which won the 2010 St. Charles Open. [7]
