The Small Schools National Championship Tournament is a national championship for the nations top small schools held by NAQT. "Small school" is defined as a public high school with an average daily membership of 500 or fewer students in grades 10–12 and a non-selective admission policy. Prior to the 2014 HSNCT, a separate award for best small school was awarded. Ultimately it was decided to host a separate tournament solely for small school who had qualified for HSNCT and that teams would be invited to both events. Additionally, the best small school will no longer be recognized at future HSNCTs.
