2001 Eisenhower (MI)
The 2001 Eisenhower team brought back almost all of its scoring from the 2000 team that had finished 1st, 2nd, and 4th at three national tournaments and was expected to be a leading contender in the new season. Eisenhower won 8 of the 10 regular-season invitational tournaments it entered, including out-of-state victories at Brookwood, Northwestern, and Case Western, but failed to repeat at either the Academic Hallmarks or NAQT state championships, losing both titles to DCC and also dropping a game to Detroit Country Day at the latter tournament.
In the May 2001 poll held before nationals, voters ranked Eisenhower as the #1 team in the country and they were expected to contend at two nationals held in their backyard, the HSNCT at Michigan and the NSC at Bowling Gren..
Eisenhower unexpectedly lost to eventual champion Northside in the quarterfinals of the ASCN, after which the team's coach withdrew their registration for HSNCT and NSC.
