In round robin-based schedule formats, it is typical in quizbowl discourse to use the word "bracket" for what is more properly described as a "pool".

The use of proper brackets, as in the kind that define single elimination formats, is highly discouraged unless no alternatives are possible. NAQT does use double elimination brackets for its larger national championships.
