Normal Community High School is a public high school located in Normal, Illinois, on the north-side of Bloomington-Normal. It competes in competes in Class AA, the "large school" division, of the Illinois High School Association’s State Championship Series. The Ironmen are long-time members of the Big 12 Conference & Intercity Scholastic Bowl league.
Along with Conference rivals, Bloomington, & University (Normal), Normal Community have been historically one of the stronger quiz bowl programs in the area over the years. Most notably under the tenure of IHSSBCA Hall of Fame coach, Dr. Todd Koehl, who saw the program achieve the majority of its playoff successes during the late 1980's & early 1990's including a quarterfinalist finish in 1995 & 1988.
In 1999, the team saw Dr. Koehl retire & coach John Bergmann assume leadership continuing his legacy by returning the Ironmen to State two years later behind then-player, Noah Prince. Dr. Prince has since gone on to have a distinguished career in quiz bowl including coaching for Illinois powerhouse IMSA, Team Illinois, as well as question writing & being an overall ambassador for the activity. He was nominated to the IHSSBCA Hall of Fame in 2022 for his accomplishments to date.
