Prior to the 2014 VHSL Realignment, VHSL Class A was one of three classes in VHSL Scholastic Bowl. In its final year, the old class A was defined as those schools with less than 700 students (barring exceptions which allowed certain schools to play up or down).

VHSL Class A consisted of VHSL Region A, VHSL Region B, VHSL Region C, and VHSL Region D. The state tournament was a double-elimination bracket consisting of the top two teams from each of those regions.

For a chronological listing of state tournament winners and runners-up, see the main VHSL Scholastic Bowl page.
