Tristan Willey was a standout player at Macomb High School in Macomb, Illinois. He later went on to play at Illinois.

Willey is a rare player in that his team finished in the top four of the IHSA State Tournament all four years he was a player, and that he was the team's leading scorer all four of those years. To make his accomplishment more singular, Willey's team transitioned after his sophomore year from the small school (Class A) division of the state to the larger school (Class AA) division.

HSNCT Performance

Willey led his Macomb team at two iterations of the NAQT HSNCT (2012 and 2013). At the 2012 tournament, Willey finished with a 34-106-30-92.81 statline, good for third among individual scorers. In 2013, he posted a 45-138-29-104.9, again finishing as the third overall individual scorer. As of 2016, his 98.96 PP20TUH is the third highest career average score in HSNCT history, and his 47.99% power percentage is the highest career power percent of any player in the tournament's history. He was one of the first 19 players to convert 300 tossups in his HSNCT career, but the only one of those players to have exclusively played in two iterations of the HSNCT.

In 2012, Willey led Macomb to a tie for 92nd at the HSNCT,though that was good enough to be the second highest finish for any small school. In 2013, Macomb finished tied for 33rd, but was the number one small school at the tournament.

Individual Honors

Willey (with Dylan Minarik) became the second player in history to be named All-Sectional four times. He was the first player to be named All-State four times.
